MLM Poetry

+ Anonymous: Million Masks

In the bad old days before so-called AI, those of us interested in automatic computer writing made our own models. Unlike LLMs, Micro Language Models are built from a corpus selected by the user. They create new phrases that could theoretically exist within the text of the corpus, but happen not to.
The second poem below is based on a corpus of Cotton Mather’s journals, a speech by Antonio Gramsci, and an electrical engineering textbook.
I then select fragments I like and look for coincidences and may do quite a lot of editing or none at all apart from line breaks.

I used this process to make a self-revealing text piece for the photography book Anonymous: Million Masks.
